Thomas A. Wiseman, Jr.

Thomas A. Wiseman, Jr. is an American jurist and Senior United States District Court Judge for the Middle District of Tennessee. He earned his undergraduate and law degrees from Vanderbilt University and also holds an LL.M. from the University of Virginia. President Jimmy Carter appointed him to the court in 1978. Prior to that, Judge Wiseman had served as Treasurer of the state of Tennessee and as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. He ran for the Democratic Party nomination for Governor in 1974 amid a crowded field of candidates and was badly outspent by both eventual nominee and winner Ray Blanton and runner-up Jake Butcher.
Wiseman resides in Nashville, Tennessee and has taught courses at Vanderbilt University Law School.
