It'd be nice if someone (more knowledgable than myself) could add some information about the Sarpedon scandal here.

The page on the Euphronios krater is probably the better location for this. Hoving's book "Making the Mummies Dance", which details his personal experiences at the Met, has at least one chapter entirely devoted to this episode, and might be a good jumping-off point (at least for his involvement in the piece's purchase).
