The Third Ring (Russian: Третье транспортное кольцо, Третье кольцо) is one of the Moscow beltways. The Third Ring is located between two other roads that circle around the center of Moscow; The Garden Ring and Moscow Ring Road, which until the 1980's defined the Moscow city limits.
The Third Ring is 35 km in length. As it is one of Moscow's main roads there is a lot of traffic on this highway which also experiences traffic jams. Moscow's streets are based on the ring roads; the Boulevard Ring the innermost ring, the Garden Ring, the Third Ring, and the Moscow Ring Road. There is planned Fourth Ring between the Moscow Ring Road and the Third Ring.
The Third Ring can be utlized to go to Sheremetyevo Airport from the other side of the city from such areas as Sparrow Hills. The road is used by many Moscovites who live in the suburbs of Moscow.
The Third Ring was completed in 2004 with the Lefortovo tunnel, the longest urban tunnel in Europe.
