Thiagarajar College of Engineering is an engineering college in Tirupparamkunram, South Tamilnadu, a township near the city of Madurai, India.
It was established in 1957 by Karumuttu Thiagarajan Chettiar, with the aim of building educational institutions to promote growth of the region. It receives funding from the Governments of India and Tamil Nadu. The university was granted autonomy in 1987 and is affiliated with Anna University in Chennai.
With the founding of the Engineering College, there are now four main institutions bearing Thiagarajan's name: Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Thiagarajar College of Arts, Thiagarajar School of Management and Thiagarajar College of Preceptors. These institutions are noted for their architecture and layout.
Thiagarajar College of Engineering includes a library and an auditorium. The college claims placement levels of 85% in the fields of computer science and electrical, electronics and communications engineering. However, the number of students pursuing higher studies is fairly low for an institution of this size.
The College is an accredited institution that offers nine undergraduate programmes, 11 postgraduate programmes, and several doctoral programmes in Engineering and Science.
The current chairperson is Dr. Radha Thiagarajan, and the vice-chairperson is Thiru Karumuttu T. Kannan.
