This is cross-posted to Wikipedia:Village pump (news).

I've created Template:This article is about to standardize and centralize (using what links here) all those disambiguating messages that appear on top of articles. E.g., to render:

This article is about tides in the ocean. For the laundry detergent, see Tide (detergent).

you can use:

Please don't do mass changes. The size of the collection of old versions is already growing fast enough. Mass changes also require significantly more commmunity buy-in than gradual changes, which people can notice gradually and discuss a they notice them. If you want to change them, just do them when you happen to want to make some other change to the article. But... how do you expect this text to change? There's not a lot of point in using a template for unchanging text. That just adds extra load to the servers for no net benefit. Jamesday 05:33, 25 Sep 2004 (UTC)

This template seems a little useless, since it takes more characters to type the template than it does to just type the sentence. Any reason we shouldn't just WP:TFD it? -- Netoholic @ 19:04, 2004 Oct 21 (UTC)

I think it would be useful to consider orphaning Template:About (which currently redirects to Template:Otheruses4) and editing 'About' as a replacement for 'this is about', converting 'this is about' to a redirect → 'about'. I know, there is a heavy load on 'about' right now, but that load is <1000 transclusions which is by no means insurmountable for manual editing. Thoughts? (I'll cross-reference this at Wikipedia talk:Disambiguation to draw attention to it). --User:Ceyockey (talk to me) 00:39, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
