Thevar Magan (1992) is a Tamil feature film directed by veteran director Bharathan. Critically considered by some to be amongst the best films released in the Tamil film industry, the film stars Kamal Haasan, Sivaji Ganesan, Nasser, Revathi and Gouthami in acclaimed roles. The film was also a commercial hit upon release. The film's score and soundtrack are composed by Ilaiyaraaja.

The Britain-educated Shakti (Kamal Haasan), son of a village chieftain Peria-thevar (Sivaji Ganesan) returns home after a long stay abroad. Accompanying Shakti is his girlfriend (Gouthami ), with whom he intends to settle in a city and start a restaurant business. However, his father hopes he will don the patriarchal mantle, a role Shakti finds alien to him and distasteful after several years abroad. Then, an accidental conflagration and its consequences turns a new set of responsibilities on Shakti. The film was remade as Virasat in Hindi.
