[edit] Introduction

THAW, which launched itself to a packed house at P.S. 122 in New York City on Monday December 9th, 2002 is a coalition of theater artists founded "with the idea that theater is a natural vehicle for a communal, non-partisan response against the war in Iraq and the attacks on civil liberties here at home." THAW's original goal was to galvanize the theater community in a single day of citywide anti-war protest, slated for Sunday, March 2, 2003. Since that time, THAW has grown into an international network of more than 250 theatres and thousands of theatre artists responding to the United States' ongoing "War on Terror", aggressive and unilateral foreign policies, and escalating attacks on civil liberties in the US and throughout the world.

[edit] Current Status

THAW is completely run by theater artist volunteers.

"We are playwrights, actors, directors, and designers, all deeply committed to nurturing a pro-peace culture by creating a striking and visible presence in the effort to stop the pre-emptive war-making of the Bush Administration overseas, and the war on Civil Liberties in the U.S." (from the THAW website).
