The Zeros

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Zeros were one of the early English punk groups, as chronicled in Henrik Poulsen's book 77: The Year of Punk and New Wave. They released a single called Hungry in November 1977 on the Small Wonder Records label

This single can now be found on the Small Wonder Vol. 1: Punk Singles Collection with Mucky Pup - Puncture and Radio Wunderbar by The Carpettes.

[edit] California

Predating the English punk group were The Zeros, aka "the Mexican Ramones", who hailed from Chula Vista, California in 1976.[citation needed] The band was comprised of Robert Lopez and Javier Escovedo who were attending Chula Vista High and Hector Penalosa and Baba Chenelle who attended Sweetwater High School. In 1977 The Zeros played what is arguably the first punk rock gig ever in Los Angeles. Opening the show was the first ever performance by The Germs, followed by The Zeros and then The Weirdos. The gig was promoted by Peter Case of The Nerves who later fronted The Plimsouls. The Zeros first release, "Wimp/Don't push me around" came out in 1977.
