The Winners

The Winners was an Australian television show that aired during the late 1970's to late 80's on the ABC.
Airing on Sunday mornings, it was hosted by Drew Morphett with a panel consisting of former players and pundits. Two matches from the previous day's VFL fixtures would be screened and the panel would speculate about the games along with the league ladder. The format of the show was comprehensive, yet devoted mainly to matters on the field. Today it appears simplistic as compared with modern football's more saturated and market driven media coverage.
The Winners was the final coverage of the VFL that the ABC would have, until the league became the AFL's reserve competition in the mid 90's.
It is now repeated on Fox Footy, with episodes mostly from the 1986 season.
