The Trifecta

The Trifecta is a one hour programming block on ESPN of three, twenty minute, sports news and information shows from 12am ET to 1am ET and also from 12pm ET till 1pm ET. The Trifecta, which debuted on April 5, 2005, is a year round programming initiative, following SportsCenter, airs Monday through Saturday. Outside the Lines Nightly, which is hosted by Bob Ley, usually leads off from 12am ET till 12:20am ET and 12pm ET till 12:20pm ET, followed by two in- season sport specific news programs from 12:20am ET till 12:40am ET and the finale from 12:40am ET till 1:00am ET and then in the afternoon from 12:20pm ET till 12:40 ET and then from 12:40pm ET to 1:00pm ET. Occasionally SportsCenter will cut into twenty minutes of The Trifecta due to programming changes.

There are four in- season sports programs to fill out the two sports shows following Outside the Lines Nightly. Baseball Tonight, which is hosted by Karl Ravech, is the only Major League Baseball devoted show, which airs from late March until October. NBA Fastbreak, which is hosted by Matt Winer, is a program devoted to the National Basketball Association and is seen from November till April. College GameNight, which is hosted by ether Rece Davis or Dave Revsine, is ESPN's nightly college basketball show, which airs from late November till early April. Finally, NFL Live, which is hosted by Trey Wingo, is a National Football League devoted show which airs nightly from late July till February.

ESPN has announced that during the 2006 FIFA World Cup from June 9, 2006 through July 9, 2006 they will air 32 episodes of World Cup Live as part of their "Trifecta" block of programming. Shows will include news updates as well as reviews and previews of World Cup action from Germany. Revsine hosts that show, with various analysts.

On July 24, 2006, Outside the Lines left the Trifecta and was moved to a new early-afternoon time slot, 3:30 p.m. ET. ESPN has not announced what, if anything, will replace it. The current lineup is Baseball Tonight for 40 minutes and NFL Live for 20 minutes. After Baseball season, the Trifecta will probably revert back to three shows, most likely NBA Fastbreak and College Gamenight along with NFL Live, as all three will be in season during Baseball's offseason.
