The Town that Dreaded Sundown is 1977 R-rated film based on the The Phantom Killer, who murdered five people in the 1940s. The film is presented in the vein of Unsolved Mysteries with a narrator dictating the actions before they are shown.

Tagline: In 1946, this man killed 5 people, today he still lurks in the streets of Texarkana, Ark.

He is referenced in Friday the 13th Part 2 as the killer in this film wears a pillowcase, just as Jason Voorhees will four years from this film's release.

The film is referenced in the 1996 film Scream.
