The Tower Recordings
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Tower Recordings (active from 1994 until 2004) were a collective of neo-psychedelic musicians from New York. Their records, including the seminal "Furniture Music for Evening Shuttles" (Siltbreeze, 1998), display an alluring amalgam of Eastern and Western folk influence in a low-fi electric psychedelic setting. Their records showcase dissonant vocal harmonies, atonal electric effects, and non-standard key signatures. Their lyrics often focused on the future, celestial and nature imagery, consciousness, and drugs. They appear to be heavily influenced by science fiction literature, especially by the works of Philip K. Dick. A number of their members have gone on to participate in other projects, such as PG Six, MV (Matt Valentine), Samara Lubelski, and Tim Barnes.
