The Tombstone Of Memories (Japanese: 記憶の墓標, - Kioku no bōyou) is the seventh episode of the anime series D.Gray-man.

After the Earl's relevation, Allen explains that even though Mana Walker is not related to him, he always considers Mana as his father. The reason is that his foster father adopted him despite of his deformed left arm and had taught him many things. When Mana died, Allen did not know what to do. One night, while Allen was grieving his loss, he met the Millenium Earl. He offered to revive Mana for the sad boy who gladly accepted. Instead of being thrilled to see Allen, Mana was furious and yelled at him for turning him into an Akuma. He slashed at a confused Allen's left eye and declared that he will curse the boy. A bemused Earl ordered Mana to kill Allen and wear his skin. However, Allen's left arm got activated and attacked Mana. Believing that Allen would be killed even with his now activated anti-Akuma weapon, the Earl left. Meanwhile, a horrified Allen watched as his left arm moved toward his father on its own and screamed for Mana to run away. Mana refused and told Allen to destroy him and that he loves him. After he destroyed the Akuma, Allen met Cross Marian, who told him everything about the Akumas and offered him a chance to be an exorcist. Allen also mentions that ever since that day, he was able to see the Akuma's souls. At first, he believed that the souls were crying out with hatred. He then realized that they were rather crying out for love toward the people who turned them into Akumas as if asking them why weren't they strong enough to continue living? Now he believes his ability is not a curse, and the reason he became an exorcist is for the sake of living. He claims that the Akumas are pitiful things that should not belong in this world, which is why he destroys them. After hearing the story, the Earl regrets not killing Allen back then.

Since Allen can see the souls of the Akuma, the Earl taunts him by asking if he can save all of them and orders Leo's Akuma to shower the exorcist with bullets. Everyone is concerned about Allen, but he assures them that since his anti-Akuma weapon is activated, he cannot be killed that easily. He is proud of his weapon due to its strength and speed. Annoyed, the Earl uses Lero (his umbrella) to summon several Akuma in the town to attack the exorcist. Seeing Jean is endangered, Lenalee activates her anti-Akuma weapon "Dark Boots" and saves him. Due to her boots' lightning-fast speed ability, Lenalee is able to avoid the Akuma's attacks and destroy them. However, Lenalee gets blasted into a nearby building and Allen rushes in to check on her. During this time, Toma and Jean watch the battle unfold. Seeing the destruction around him, Jean recalls how he thought he knows everything about Akumas and told Leo about them. He realizes that his friend must miss his mother so much that he was willing to turn her into an Akuma just to see her again. Jean then understands that while he knows everything about Akuma's technology, he does not understand anything about the humans' hearts. He immediately cries out to Allen to destroy Leo so he and his mother can rest in peace. Allen then decides to use "Cross Grave" and destroys all of the Akuma. While he is escaping, the Earl shouts that more Akuma will arrive in this world and that this is only the prologue. He vows to purify the world and not even the exorcists can stop him. The next day, Allen gives Jake Russell a gift from his son, which turns out to be an onion bomb. Jean's father believes that his son is not ready yet, and Allen says that his son agrees. Before Allen and company return to headquarters, Jean tells the exorcist that he still needs to study more and become stronger before he can see his dad again. Touched by his son's words, Jake promises to visit his son.
