The Thrill Of It All is a 1963 romantic comedy film directed by Norman Jewison starring Doris Day, James Garner, Arlene Francis, and ZaSu Pitts. The screenplay was written by Larry Gelbart and Carl Reiner. Reiner also plays a cameo as a character actor appearing on TV in various nasty roles.
The story of the film centres around urban housewife Beverly Boyer (Day) and her workaholic gynecologist husband and devoted family man Gerald (Garner). By sheer chance, Beverly is landed with an opportunity to star in a television commercial advertising soap. After a shaky start, she lands a contract for $85,000 per year to appearing on the weekly TV commercials, but soon the TV studio places greater and greater demands on the unlikely TV star. The story deals with the dynamic between the couple as Beverely deals with Gerald's jealousy at the fact that she is now out-earning him, and how their relationship slowly deteriorates through to its eventual reconciliation.
