The Stupids (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Stupids were a skatepunk thrash group from Ipswich in the United Kingdom in the 1980s, and were thought of as one of the leading groups of this style in those days. They recorded 3 sessions for John Peel's BBC Radio 1 show and toured the USA (with NYC rockers Ludichrist) and Australia (with locals, the Hard Ons) as well as Europe and the UK. The band was led by Tommy Stupid who was to end up as the single original member throughout the various line-ups. The primary Stupids releases were:
- Violent Nun 7" EP on Children of The Revolution records (COR)
- Peruvian Vacation album on COR
- Retard Picnic album on Cor
- Van Stupid mini album on Vinyl Solution Records (VS)
- Frankfurter Eat 10" EP on VS
- Jesus Meets The Stupids album on VS
In addition to the above the band have since featured on various CD re-issues, compilations (i.e. Sounds and US skate mag Thrasher), collector's singles and BBC session releases put out by Strange Fruit.
A professionally filmed live video tape, Drive-In Hit Movie, was released shortly after the band broke up in 1989.
