The Sticklers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sticklers are the self proclaimed "greatest" and now-retired rock 'n' roll band out of Honolulu, Hawaii. They are often compared to The Ramones, The Queers, Joan Jett, and Grapefruit. Formed by frontman, guitarist, and lead vocalist dave noOdle in 1996, The Sticklers originally consisted of himself, Alex Nagata (1996-1997, 1999-2002), Jackson (1996-1999), and Johnny Jujubee (1996). Otto Cake (1997-2002) joined the band in 1997 which also saw the loss of Alex.
Other members included Roy (1998), Noey (1999), Brian Baldwin (1998), and Shilo (2001-2002).
The Sticklers began playing underground shows in the Bakery, Club Punk Rock, and Pink Cadillac, among other venues, with a group of other acts (including Go Jimmy Go) to spark up the underground music scene in Hawaii.
The Sticklers' resumé is a full one. They performed on the local bands stage at the Warped Tour in 2000 and were kicked off stage for including a raunchy interpretive dance piece to their song "Red Ants." They've opened for Scared of Chaka, Lagwagon, Guttermouth, The Vandals, and The Secretions to name a few. Two tours of the mainland left them returning to Hawaii as heroes; they also hold the honor of playing over 100 shows in Hawaii.
The Sticklers have appeared on dozens of compilation tapes and, to their own credit, have released a handful of records themselves. After 107 local shows, the most recent being at Pipeline Café on 8/19/05, The Sticklers are retired. But "I don't eat chicken, I don't eat meat / And some people think that's really neat" (The Sticklers - Vegetarian) will forever beat in the hearts of all who have ever witnessed them live.
