The Static Age

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Static Age are an American post punk band originally from Burlington, Vermont. They began playing shows during 2002, and they've released three albums and a few singles to date. As of November 2006, their latest release was 2006's "Blank Screens," released on ReIgnition Records (the sister label to the former Law of Inertia magazine). It was the followup to 2004/2005's "Neon Nights Electric Lives" released originally on Tarantulas Records in October of 2004, and then again through Tarantulas Records/Platform Group/Fontana in March of 2005 (putting them in league with the widely varied company of fellow bands with releases on Tarantulas including The Distillers, The Bronx, Darker My Love, The Explosion, and others -- but affording them the wider reach of Fontana, a distribution arm of Universal). Other prior releases include 2004's "Amphibian" single, 2003's "The Past and Now" single, and 2003's "The Cost of Living" album ("The Cost of Living" was released on the band's own, apparently defunct, label Primary Records). More can be read about these releases in the news and records archives at the band's Official website.

Due to an exhaustive touring schedule during 2004 and 2005 (the band has completed a series of full US tours and one major trip through Canada 1), nods from more established bands (both Jade Puget of AFI and Dave Walsh of the Explosion made guest appearances on "Neon Nights Electric Lives," and AFI has taken The Static Age on tour), very favorable attention from both the US and the UK press (quotes riddle the band's official website -- many could be labeled as "critical acclaim"), and the fact that the video for "Vertigo" was #1 on FUSE TV's Oven Fresh by the end of last year, the band has been able to garner a level of notoriety for itself. In 2006, the band toured more lightly (50-70 shows), recorded and released "Blank Screens," and are currently (as of November, 2006, according to their website) working on a video and will announce more touring plans for 2007 soon.

[edit] Sideprojects

There has long been talk of a sideproject record from Paley, but as of yet, no street date has been released or officially announced 2. Despite this, a few demos from the Matt Squire recordings have circulated the Internet under the name "Paper Tigers." Furthermore, as of late 2006, an "official" website has gone up with further details and hints of continued recording and an impending release. This adds to songs available for streaming on his myspace page and other downloads at purevolume -- the blog at his myspace site also suggests "Paper Tigers" is no longer a working title due to legal disputes with a similarly named band from the UK.

[edit] Rumors

Two different rumors have circulated regarding the band. One involves the relationship between Paley and Cameron and/or Whiteford (who is no longer with the band as of 2005). The other involves The Static Age's supposed snub of indie giant Victory Records regarding their long-winded attempts to sign the band. Neither can be verified via searches of the internet. Drew and Adam were once members of the Vermont punk band the river city rebels
