The Sportsmen (comic)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Sportsmen were foes of Alec Swan, also known as Firearm. They first appeared in Firearm #1.
The Sportsmen were a group of wealthy Ultras, who having reaced the pinacle of the business community found themselves borred. Seeking excitement, they kidnapped former members of branches of the armed services, and hunted them. The Sportmen then killed them and ate them afterwards. They made a fatal mistake when they decided to hunt Alec Swan, who was investiating the disapearance of Arnie Tate, one of the men they had kidnapped. To ensure Swan's compliance, they threatened the life of Arnie Tate's fiancé, Claire Body. Swan evaded capture and managed to kill several of the members durring the hunt. Swan then attempted to escape by stealing a car, which the Sportsmen had rigged to explode. Swan escaped at the last moment.
The Sportmen, thinking Swan dead, prepared to feast on Claire Brody. Swan, meanwhile, infilatrated their citadel and ambushed the Sportmen at their dinner table. Taken by surprise, Swan was able to battle them on equal footing. In the end, only Edwin Mosley, a member who had wings growing out of his back which allowed him to fly, escaped Swan. Davenport, the leader of the Sportsmen, met his end at Swan's hands.
