The Sinner Within (Japanese: 「我が内なる科人＜トガビト＞」 - Wagauchi Naru Toganin < Togabito >) is episode 36 of the Fullmetal Alchemist TV series originally aired 2004-06-19.
Edward and Alphonse try to join a group of Ishbalan refugees (among them are Rick and Leo) being shipped further south by the military, hoping to get more information about the Philosopher’s Stone. Fuery and Havoc spot them, and Winry helps them escape on a tractor. Lt. Hawkeye intercepts Ed and Al at the refugee camp where Scar met the Ishbalan alchemist. Ed and Al question the alchemist, who reveals that Ishbalans have had furtive, forbidden alchemical knowledge for years, and that the only way to create the Philosopher’s Stone is by sacrificing human lives. Winry learns from Rick and Leo that it was a State Alchemist who killed her parents in the Ishbalan rebellion, one whose specialty was fire. Winry heads back to Central with Lt. Hawkeye, while Ed and Al continue on to Ishbal, hoping to catch up to Scar.
