Though often coined as a game, The Simpsons Cartoon Studio was actually a design application for creating small cartoons using characters, sounds, music, and locals from the television show. The application came with hundreds of animations of many of the show's characters and allowed users to create and export cartoons that could be viewed by anyone who had the Simpsons Cartoon Player.
The game includes 50 special effects, 270 props and 45 backgrounds and was created with over 10,000 individual cells, hand-drawn by actual Simpsons cartoonists. It uses an improved version of the interface from Felix the Cat's Cartoon Toolbox. A demo version was offered for download, which has a limited number of background sets, characters, and props.
