[edit] Summary One

(found in page five of the book)

"When Joseph Balicki escaped from his Nazi prison, it took him four and a half weeks back to Warsaw. He was looking for his wife Margrit and his three children-Ruth, Edek and Bronia. But when he reached the city, there was hardly a street he recognised. Warsaw was one gigantic bomb-site. As he sifted through the pile of rubble that had been his home he thought he would never see his family again. His wife Margrit had been taken away by the Nazis, and no one had seen his children since the night the house was destroyed.
But the children had survived, and this is the story of their search for their parents-a search which was to take them half way across Europe."

[edit] Summary Two

(found at the back of the book)

"When the Nazis seize their father and mother, in World War II, the three Balicki children are left to fend for themselves in occupied Poland. Bravely they survive the hardships of war, and never completely lose hope of finding thier parents again. This is the exciting story of their quest, of the clever orphan boy Jan who helps them, and of the silver talisman that accompanies them on their dangerous journey."

Oral:draft Props Number on arm, German jacket, chocolate bar Setting 1 day after Joseph escapes from Zakyna prison he needs to explain his appearance and actions to audience Story Hello my name is Joseph Balicki the first ever to escape from Zakyna prison I can see you don’t believe me so I hope you will take this as proof (ZAK2473) they put markings like these on all the prisoners that arrive there. Oh and sorry for threatening you with my pistol, which is actually just a bar of chocolate, here have some.

I was afraid when I saw you because I thought you might be a German and was relieved when I heard you speak Polish. The Germans eventually start loosing and will have to withdraw from Poland and everything will be set right. If only there was some way I could help the dieing people that are still trapped in that hellhole of a prison encampment.

I have been in the prison for about 2 years; I guess and haven’t regretted turning Hitler’s face to the wall while praying once. I haven’t seen my family since visiting is out of the question
