[edit] Plot summary
Zoë is a human girl whose mother has cancer. Her best friend, Lorraine, is moving to Oregon soon, and she always feels lonely. Recently, women in her community have been found drained of blood, their necks slashed. She doesn't think much of it in the beginning, but this is a mistake.
Simon is a vampire who lives in Zoë's town. He was not willingly made a vampire, and his intentions are unclear when we first meet him. Simon first encounters Zoë as a possible source of blood, but she broke through the trance and escaped. Intrigued, he decided to try and find the girl.
Over the course of the book, the two begin to develop feelings for each other, and Simon's reason for being in the town is revealed. Simon is hunting his brother Christopher, also a vampire, who has been killing the women. With Zoë's help, Simon manages to kill Christopher. The book ends with Simon throwing away his "native soil," waiting with Zoë for dawn. When the sun rises, Simon dissipates into nothingness, free of the curse of vampirism.[[Category:Romance novels
