The band is made up of Josh Abel (vocals, keyboards, guitar), Tristan Martin (guitar, vocals), Martin Kay (drums, vocals), and Tobias Jesso (bass, vocals). Formed in 2005, the band is heavily influenced by the post punk of the 1980s, the brit pop of the 1990s, and modern day indie rock.

[edit] History
After leaving his phone number for Jesso on a Little Caesar’s pizza box (where Jesso worked at the time), Martin would eventually come in contact with his friend and previous band’s drummer Kay to help form a new group. Jesso would eventually contact friend and schoolmate Abel and from them on, along with a friend of Martin’s, the five began to jam under the band name Hello Dolly. The group would only last for a half year, which lead Abel, Martin, and Kay to form a new band that would eventually be The Sessions. After recruiting friend and Hello Dolly bass player Jesso, the band would play it’s first show at Vancouver’s Piccadilly Pub.
