[edit] Plot
As put forth in the film, The Law of Attraction principle posits that our thoughts and emotions affect real events in the world, from the workings of the entire cosmos, to interactions among individuals in their physical, emotional, and professional affairs. The film also insinuates that there was a conspiracy to keep this central principle hidden from the public. The previews or "clues" to the film show Charles F. Haanel having "uncovered The Secret... Like the great men before him...", and his book, The Master Key System focuses heavily on this concept which is one of the book's key themes. Rhonda Byrne, creator, explains on the DVD commentary section that she discovered The Secret after reading the 1910 classic The Science of Getting Rich by Wallace D. Wattles.
[edit] Secret Teachers
The Secret features professionals and authors in the fields of quantum physics, psychology , metaphysics, theology, philosophy, business & finance, feng shui, medicine, and personal development. The Secret Teachers featured on prominent american TV shows are John Assaraf, Rev. Michael Beckwith, John Demartini, Bob Proctor, Jack Canfield, James Arthur Ray, and Joe Vitale.
Other secret teachers who appear in the original "Abraham-Hicks" version of the documentary are Lee Brower, Marie Diamond, Mike Dooley, Bob Doyle, Hale Dwoskin, Cathy Goodman, Morris E. Goodman, John Gray, John Hagelin, Bill Harris, Esther Hicks, Ben Johnson, Loral Langemeier, Lisa Nichols, David Schirmer, Marci Shimoff, Denis Waitley, Neale Donald Walsch, and Fred Alan Wolf.
Since the first release of the DVD, Esther Hicks requested to be removed from the project stating in a letter to friends, "... allowing them to edit us out was the path of least resistance". Also stated in the letter: "... Jerry and I were uncomfortable with what felt to us like a rather aggressive marketing campaign (just not our style, nothing wrong with it)...". In addition, quotes from her are not included in the companion book; however, her contributions are acknowledged in the introduction.
[edit] Past Secret Teachers
The film also includes quotes of historical figures styled as "Past Secret Teachers", presenting them as apparent believers of this Law of Attraction. The film does not explicitly claim that all these famous people intentionally embraced the Law of Attraction or even had conscious knowledge of such a law. Rather, the film implicitly presents them as having achieved greatness by means of this law and now serve, via example and compelling words, as teachers.

[edit] Quotes
What we think about and thank about, we bring about.
—Dr John DeMartini
When you're visualizing, when you've got that picture playing out in your mind always and only dwell upon the end result.
—Mike Dooley
So we are the creators, not only of our own destiny but ultimately we are the creators of universal destiny, we are the creators of the universe.
—John Hagelin
The universe ...is [like] a grand Houdini [which] traditions have called with so many names like the holy guardian angel, your higher self ... [and it] says only one thing : "your wish is my command".
—James Arthur Ray
[edit] Release date
The Secret premier was broadcast through the Internet on March 23, 2006 using Vividas technology. It is still available by pay per view through streaming media, and available on DVD at The Secret and through The director's official site. A new extended edition of The Secret was released to the public on October 1, 2006 and later featured on two special episodes of The Larry King Live Show on November 2, 2006 and November 16, 2006. The episodes are called "Beyond Positive Thinking" or "The Power of Positive Thinking." On December 1, 2006, Ellen Degeneres followed suit by presenting two of The Secret documentary teachers on The Ellen Degeneres Show.
[edit] Marketing campaign
The movie is advertised on the Internet using tease advertising and viral marketing techniques in which "The Secret" and the specific details of the film are not revealed. Preview videos on their official site describe "The Secret" as being passed down through millennia and hidden from the general public and say that the film will reveal it to the world. Trailers were released as clues as to what the plot of the film was. In addition, the trailer suggests that diverse elite groups tried to ban or hide the law of attraction from the public.
[edit] Criticism
The Secret have been criticised by a few because of its claims of Past Secret Teachers. The suggestion that all of these people believed in Law of attraction is not proven in the film. While it is communicated that those appearing in the film are 'the world's greatest Teachers', some of them might have not consciously known of the Law of Attraction while succeeding.
