The Ringworld Engineers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ringworld Engineers is a novel by Larry Niven first published in 1980 (ISBN 0-345-33430-2). It is the first sequel to Niven's highly popular Ringworld.
Niven says the novel was in part written due to fan response to Ringworld, both because of its popularity, and to clear up many engineering problems in the first book left undiscussed. The primary problem is the issue of Ringwold's orbit changing relative to the star it encircles, which would eventually result in the entire structure colliding with the sun and disintegrating. The book also covers the multitude of hominid species that have evolved on the Ringworld in more depth.
