The Reluctant Fundamentalist is a novel by Mohsin Hamid that is expected to be published in 2007 by Hamish Hamilton in the UK and Harcourt in the US. It was reported in The Guardian that it is reminiscent of Sándor Márai's Embers, and opens in a café in Lahore, where a man tells how he is divided between east and west. A short story adapted from the novel called Focus on the Fundamentals appeared in the Fall 2006 issue of The Paris Review.
