[edit] History

The Regent's School was founded in 1995 as the first international co-educational boarding school on the Eastern Seaboard of Thailand. It now boasts a separate school campus in Bangkok and an Outdoor Education Centre on Thailand's third largest island, Ko Chang, near the Thai border with Cambodia.

The campus is situated in a spacious and attractive tropical garden setting just an hour and a half's drive from Bangkok. Surrounded by fields and palm groves, it provides a safe and healthy countryside atmosphere.

The school commenced life as a small Primary School serving the families of expatriates who worked at the nearby industrial port. However, due to the vision of its founder, Dr. Virachai Techavijit, the school has grown both in size and reputation and is now well on its way towards the goal of being one of the finest international boarding schools in South East Asia. The school's vision is driven by leadership of the highest order: the Founding Headmaster, Richard Poulton, relinquished the Headship of Christ's Hospital School in the UK in order to establish the Regent's. He was succeeded by Simon Leslie, former Head of Geelong Grammar School, Timbertop. The outstanding progress made during the tenure continues under the Headship of Patracia Metham, former Headmistress of Roedean School in England.

[edit] Mission & Philosophy

Regent’s School-Pattaya is accredited by WES in the UK (Ofsted Inspectors), also a member of Council of International Schools (CIS) and recognised by the British Embassy for diplomats' children. The Regent’s School is a member of the prestigious Round Square Association, with its President, HM King Constantine and HRH Prince Andrew, Board Member, as patrons (www.roundsquare.org). Round Square schools believe it is their obligation to produce well rounded leaders for our future global community. Round Square schools instill six values at the heart of all their students do, both within and beyond the classroom. These key values are known as the Six Pillars. Taken in the 'right' order, their first letters memorably and appropriately spell out IDEALS: International awareness, Democracy, Environmental responsibility, Adventure, Leadership and Service to others. Our sense of achievement as a School comes from translating these IDEALS into practical realities.

The School is a member of Federation of British International Schools in South and Southeast Asia (FOBISSEA) which provides opportunities for international sports and exchanges. There are many scholarship programmes including Global Connect, Diplomatic and Ministerial Connect Scholarships and music scholarship at both of our campuses. Oxford, Imperial College, King’s College-London, Stanford, MIT, National University of Singapore and Seoul National University are among the prestigious universities which have offered places to our recent graduates at both campuses, in some cases with full scholarships. Our four single-sex boarding houses are modern and comfortable, and have networked IT facilities. There is a professional and effective pastoral system with firm and fair discipline. The Regent’s School has a zero tolerance policy on alcohol and drug possession.
