Adam White (Vocals) and James Nelan (Guitar) formed The Reason in the winter of 2003. The two had played in various bands while they were growing up in Ontario, Canada. Adding Erik Mikalauskas (guitar), Cam Bordignon (drums) and Sean Palmer (Bass), The Reason began to write songs and immediately released their first EP - Problems Associated With Running. The band replaced Mikalauskas with Jeremy Widerman on guitar and the band took their jet propelled stage show on the road. They soon signed to Smallman Records after the label witnessed a stage show so full of energy that it ended with a post show hospital trip for White. In the 12 months that followed they played over 200 shows across Canada and the northern USA, and quickly developed poise well beyond their short existence.
They released their first full-length album, Ravenna, on Smallman Records in 2004, an album strong enough to land them tours with Alexisonfire, Murphy’s Law, No Use for a Name and Strung Out, and shows at CMW, Wakefest, Edgefest, and Wakestock. The new album combined aggressive pop with unbridled punk that triggered comparisons to Grade (band) and old Get Up Kids. According to Chart Magazine, The Reason had “sharpened their attack, tightened up arrangements and honed their harmonies to precision-drilled perfection”.
In 2005, The Reason replaced Sean Palmer with Ronson Armstrong on bass and prepared themselves for their next release. Determined to release a follow-up that would exceed all expectations, The Reason patiently wrote and recorded songs over the next two years. This work paid off when they attracted the attention of Juno winning producer Gavin Brown (musician) (Billy Talent, Three Days Grace, Thornley), who agreed to work with The Reason “as a labour of love” after hearing the demo. With Brown at the helm, The Reason’s new album, "Things Couldn't Be Better" is scheduled for release January 2007.
