The Rank Deluxe are a South-East London band, notable for their involving live shows and energetic sound. They play a style of music they describe as "sewage", which is a mixture of punk, ska, indie-rock and reggae. Their name is a direct quote from a glamour model Lew and Rich encountered in a strip-club, who claimed the place to be "so rank deluxe", meaning it was the best of the worst.

In early 2006 they signed a recording contract with Fat Cat Records, and will be releasing three singles on limited 7" vinyl, the first being a double-A release of "Doll Queue" and "Come On" on the 29th May, 2006.

[edit] History

Lewis Dyer and Richard Buchanan both grew up on a council estate in Thamesmead, where they met and formed a band called The Method, who played a mixture of funk and metal. Meanwhile, Chris Ballard was drumming in a band called Tested Material with long time friend of Rich and Lew, Tommy Mizen. When both bands suffered the loss of members, Lew and Rich auditioned several drummers and bassists, before settling on Chris and John Wallis in early 2005. Rich and Lew had already recorded several demo tracks with the members of The Method, and continued to record demos with Chris and John, refining their sound to the "sonic picture of council estate youth" that it is today.

During their time together, the band have recorded a live session with the well known London indie radio station Xfm, as well as playing at the Tin Pan Alley Festival on Denmark Street and the opening of Xfm in Manchester.

[edit] Live Shows

The band have become renowned for their intense live shows. Almost every show ends with either Richard or Lewis, and sometimes both, descending into the audience to get fans to sing along to the chorus of cockney-shout-fest "Style". Their touring schedule has taken them up through the midlands, and into the north of england, as well as many shows in their native London.

[edit] Releases

The band will be releasing the double-A side single "Doll Queue/Come On" on the 29th May, followed by "Style/What Do You Want" on the 24th July and "Poor Man's Cab/End in Mind" on the 28th August, all on 7" vinyls with Fat Cat Records.
