The Race to Urga

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Race to Urga started out as a 1968 Stephen Sondheim adaptation of the Bertolt Brecht play The Exception and the Rule. Soon the project was renamed to A Pray by Blecht, and composition of the music was passed on to Leonard Bernstein, though Sondheim still intended to do the lyrics. The show was never completed, but in April 1986 a workshop production was presented at the Mitzi Newhouse Theater at Lincoln Center. John Guare assisted with writing the book for this production. There is no known recording of this show.
