The Prophecy (professional wrestling)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Prophecy was a stable in Ring of Honor led by Christopher Daniels. The goal of the Prophecy was to break down Ring of Honor and rebuild it in Daniels' own image. Members of the Prophecy did not follow the Code of Honor and tried to prevent others from doing so as well.

[edit] History

Christopher Daniels competed in the main event of the first ROH show, The Era of Honor Begins, but refused to follow the Code of Honor (which states that wrestlers must shake hands before and after each match). Daniels despised Ring of Honor and the Code of Honor, so to help him tear them both down, he created The Prophecy. The Prophecy was first talked about by Daniels and his valet Simply Luscious, but became a real stable when Donovan Morgan joined Daniels at Night of Appreciation. The group got its next member at Unscripted. During a match between Low Ki and Xavier for the ROH Championship, Daniels came to the ring to distract his enemy Low Ki (the defending champion). While Low Ki was distracted, Xavier attacked him from behind and beat him with a chair and a cement pole. Low Ki crawled back into the ring and was pinned by Xavier, making him the new ROH Champion. After the match, it was made clear that Xavier was the newest member of The Prophecy. Later that night, Daniels and Morgan won a one night tournament to become the first ever ROH Tag Team Champions. Even though Daniels and Morgan won the titles, any members could defend them. Simply Luscious soon left the group and was replaced by Allison Danger. At Expect the Unexpected, Daniels and Xavier lost the tag team titles to AJ Styles and Amazing Red. Less than two weeks later, Xavier lost the ROH Championship to Samoa Joe.

At the Round Robin Challenge II, Dan Maff (formerly Mafia of Da Hit Squad) turned on his partner Monsta Mack and joined The Prophecy. Maff won his first match as a Prophecy member against BJ Whitmer, who would later join the group also. The Prophecy began feuding with a stable called The Group, which featured CW Anderson, Samoa Joe, Michael Shane, and Jack Victory. The feud came to and end at Night of the Grudges in a match were the losing team had to break up. The Prophecy won the match. Donovan Morgan left The Prophecy and ROH soon after.

At Wrath of the Racket, Jim Cornette made his first ROH appearance and aligned himself with The Prophecy. Cornette is known as a tag team specialist, and he thought The Prophecy was a great team. That night, Christopher Daniels and Dan Maff were supposed to challenge AJ Styles and Amazing Red for the Tag Team titles, but while Red was signing autographs for the fans, he was jumped by The Prophecy and put out of action. However, Homicide took his place in the match and the titles were retained. After the match, Cornette shook hands with AJ and Homicide and was attacked by The Prophecy.

Xavier hadn't been in ROH since he lost the title, and his first match back was against Daniels for the spot of number one contender. Daniels won the match and it was unclear if Xavier was still a member. When it appeared that Xavier might still be a member, it was revealed that he had joined Prince Nana to form a new group called The Embassy.

The Prophecy began a feud with the Second City Saints of CM Punk, Colt Cabana, and Ace Steel. The feud started when the Saints' valet Lucy was attacked. Christoper Daniels finally revealed that BJ Whitmer not only was the one who attacked Lucy, but was also the newest member of The Prophecy. BJ Whitmer joined the group the same night Xavier officially left. At The Battle Lines are Drawn, a match took place between the Saints and The Prophecy. It ended in a no contest, but after the match, Punk gave Christopher Daniels a Pepsi Plunge through a table. This put Daniels out of ROH for over a year. With Daniels gone, Maff and Whitmer still teamed together under the Prophecy name, and won the Tag Team Titles for a short time during the Round Robin Challenge III. After the feud with the Saints finished, Maff and Whitmer continued teaming together, but dropped the Prophecy name. Allison Danger claimed that The Prophecy would reform one day. This never fully happened, but Christopher Daniels did return to ROH and Allison Danger was still his valet.
