The Plane Makers/The Power Game
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Plane Makers is a British television series made by ATV for ITV between 1963 and 1965.
The series focused on the power struggles between the workers' union and the management on the shop floor of an aircraft factory. Patrick Wymark proved particularly popular as the ambivalent managing director John Wilder, who was almost a proto-J.R. Ewing in that he became a central character that the other characters and viewers "loved to hate".
The series returned to ITV screens in 1966, renamed The Power Game, and focused on Wilder's scheming, having left the factory and climbing the career ladder even further. The third and final series saw Wilder as a Foreign Office Ambassador for Trade.
The Power Game sadly came to an end with the sudden death of actor Patrick Wymark in 1969.
