[edit] About the Society

The Pink Links Society was established at the University of St Andrews in 2006. The Pink Links Society aims to promote the interests of the women of the University of St Andrews, headed by its President and Co-Founder Miss Livia Argentesi, and supported by the Vice-President and Co-founder Miss Gabrielle Taylor, followed by a board of seven committee members. The Pink Links Society aims to foster the development of friendships among women in St Andrews, to cultivate self-esteem in female students and to support women's charities both locally and nationally.

The Society is independent of the University of St Andrews Students' Association, a decision taken in November 2006, and thus The Pink Links Society is an independent non-profit organisation, and thus a private society away from the University's Students' Association, where members of the University are invited to join at various points of the academic year.

[edit] The Society's Aims

In accordance with the Society's values of Amicitia, Justicia and Fides it aims to support women in need and victims of violence and abuse. The Charities closest to the Society are the East Fife Women's Aid and the Rape Crisis Center in Dundee. Members will be able to volunteer at these charities and the Society's social events will raise money for these two charities.

[edit] Past Social Events & Fundraisers

Past Social Events have included a Charity Dinner Date Auction aptly named "Drop Dead Gorgeous", where Committee and Ordinary Members of the Society auctioned themselves off to male students of the University to raise money for charity. A Charity Cocktail Party was also held named THINK PINK, which again raised a significant amount of money for Charity, which along with the funds from Drop Dead Gorgeous will be donated to a charity of the Society's choice at the end of Martinmas Semester 2006-7. This is expected to be East Fife Women's Aid

[edit] Corporate Sponsorship

The Society is sponsored by several corporate members including BICO Ltd, BE FOOD Ltd; and Ma Bells incorporating the St Andrews Golf Hotel, who are their local sponsor, and are the supporting venue for most of the Society's events.

[edit] Sponsored Charitable Organisations

Charitable Organisations that are sponsored by The Pink Links Society are as follows:

EAST FIFE WOMEN'S AID

RAPE CRISIS SCOTLAND

The Society is seeking to cast its net further by supporting national charities with later events

[edit] The Committee

The Society is presided over by a board of nine committee members, which care for the wellbeing of the Society. The current committee is as follows:

PRESIDENT - Miss Livia Argentesi

VICE PRESIDENT - Miss Gabrielle Taylor

TREASURER - Miss Kirsten Nelson-Johnson

SECRETARY - Miss Yvonne Ross

PR & MARKETING - Miss Sarah McLean

EVENTS CO-ORDINATOR - Miss Katie Thomas

CHARITIES OFFICER - Mr Alexander Griffiths-Moros

SOCIAL CONVENOR - Miss Nancy Loukota

SPONSORS OFFICER - Miss Anna Curvis

[edit] Membership to The Society

Membership to the Society is open first and foremost to the matriculated females of the University of St Andrews. There is however permission for matriculated males of the University to join if they prove to the committee that they support and have a significant interest in the society's aims and mission. This decision is at the discretion of the Committee. Membership at this point then takes two guises -

HONOURARY MEMBERS - These are individuals within the Society who are hand selected by the committee, and are chosen as a result of their commitment and interest in the Society. They meet on a regular basis with each other and with the Committee, and are involved heavily in volunteering at the Society's elected charities and in the organisation of their events

ORDINARY MEMBERS - These are individuals within the Society who support the aims of the Society and wish to take an interest in the events that are held throughout the academic year, but do not wish to involve themselves in the level of commitment associated with Honourary Membership. Through showing outstanding commitment to the Committee, Ordinary Members may be permitted Honourary Membership at the committee's discretion.

[edit] Upcoming Events

The Society's events calendar for Martinmas Semester 2006 (September 2006 - January 2007) has now been fulfilled, currently there are no events planned until Candlemas Semester which commences in February 2007. This is when the Social Calendar for the Second Semester will begin and be published.
