[edit] Summary

A U.S. Navy SEAL Lt. Shane Wolfe (Vin Diesel) is assigned to protect the Plummer children from enemies of their recently deceased father, a scientist who had created a top-secret weapon for the government (GHOST), and then hid the device. Wolfe must take care of the children while their mother is in Switzerland, retrieving the key to find the device. Much of the comedy is based on the contrast between Wolfe's military background and the travails of his rebellious suburban brood.

At the end of the movie, however, we find out that the Plummer's neighbors, a North Korean family named the Chuns, and his commanding officer are actually North Korean spies. Captain Bill Fawcett (Chris Potter) knocks Shane out from behind with his gun. They come to get GHOST, but Wolfe does not know the password. In desperation, he starts singing the Peter Panda Dance and doing what it says (ex. "Roll... like a log") and it actually works. He gets GHOST, and a fight ensues in which the Chungs and the traitor Fawcett are arrested.

[edit] Peter Panda Dance

The Peter Panda dance is a dance that has extreme significance in the movie The Pacifier. At the beginning, Seth tells Wolfe that his father used to sing it to Peter before he died and that he wants him to sing it to Peter so he can sleep. The lyrics are:

When you're down and low,
lower than the floor,
And you feel like you ain't got a chance.
Bom, bom, bom
Don't make a move till you're in the groove
And do the Peter Panda dance:
[Clap twice]
Just hop three times like a kangaroo,
Side-step twice just like the crabs do
Three steps forward, one step back
Quick like a turtle, lie on your back!
Roll like a log till you can't roll no more!
Better jump up quick like there ain't no floor,
Hold your breath, and jump to the left;
And that's the Peter,
I swear that's the Peter,
That's the Peter Panda Dance!

It should be noted that this dance has nothing to do with pandas except for the fact that Peter's father used to call him, "Peter Panda". The song was made special by Peter's father because it was the password to get the GHOST.

[edit] Trivia

  • Jackie Chan was meant to star as Vin Diesel's role, but due to busy arrangements, did not take the role.
  • The scene where Lulu tells Shane that she thinks he's cute and Shane's embarassed response was based on a real life incident on set. Morgan York (the actress who plays Lulu), upon meeting Vin Diesel, actually said that to him and he awkwardly responded with a "thank you". The director thought it was so funny that he put it in the film.
  • When Shane is in Peter's room, before Lulu asks him about his "boobs", on the floor are letter blocks spelling out "One Race". One Race is the production company owned by Vin Diesel.
  • A Pikachu toy can be seen in a few scenes throughout the movie as well as a Green Day poster.
  • An actual Navy Seal was on set.
  • When Tate Donovan is tied up, the set used was actually in a cafeteria.
  • In the first scene, the ocean is actually a huge swimming pool.
  • They had to shine a red light at Vin Diesel's ear to get the duck to bite it.
  • They used the same live duck throughout the movie.
  • In the scene after Seth gets bullied when Shane is talking to Mern, you can see Max Theriot's stunt double. He's in a white cap behind Diesel.
  • The ninjas in the movie were from Jackie Chan's stunt team.
  • Boo Berries cereal is not sold in Toronto so Adam Shankman's assistant had to drive to Buffalo, New York to get the cereal.
  • Director Cameo: (Adam Shankman) the student driver teacher with Brittany Snow.
  • The first day of shooting for the movie took place with the scene when Shane sees Seth outside the theater.
  • Just to get one shot of the baby falling asleep towards the end of the movie, they had a camera on him for four hours.
  • When Morgan York and her troop fight the enemies, the crew used a 14 year old girl to do the cartwheels.
  • The hotel room that Faith Ford was staying in was actually built in an abandoned ice rink.
  • The play at the end of the movie was filmed in a high school theater.
  • The address handed to Shane (3 Rosemary Lane) is the actual address of the house. The house is actually in Toronto though.
