The Overland

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Overland is a passenger rail service running between Melbourne and Adelaide, Australia. It was started in 1887 as the "Adelaide Express" and given its current name in 1926. Now operated by private company Great Southern Railway, the train completes three return trips a week, travelling mostly during daylight. Two classes of accommodation are offered: "Red Kangaroo" seats and "Gold Kangaroo" sleepers.

The train leaves Southern Cross Station in Melbourne at 7.30am (EST) and arrives in Adelaide about 6.10pm (CST) the same day.

Because Southern Cross Station is part of the local train network, it is possible to transfer from a commuter train to The Overland in Melbourne. At Adelaide, it uses the Keswick Rail Terminal, which is a longer walk from Keswick station on the suburban network.
