The Other Side of the Hedge is a first-person narrative short story by E. M. Forster.
[edit] Synopsis
A neighborhood jogger passes a hedge with a strange light emanating from behind it. He decides to investigate the light and falls into a pool of water. Surprisingly, a strange person helps him out of the water and his surroundings are transformed into a place of peace and beauty. Eventually, the narrator realizes that he is, in fact, dead. He learns that the man from whom he takes the can of beer is his brother and that they are both together in heaven.
