The Other Final

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Other Final is a 2003 documentary film directed by Johan Kramer about a football match between Bhutan and Montserrat, the then-lowest ranked teams on FIFA World Rankings. The game was played in the Changlimithang Stadium, Thimphu, Bhutan. Bhutan won the game 4-0.

[edit] Background

The movie was made after the Netherlands, a team that normally qualifies, failed to qualify for the 2002 FIFA World Cup. Kramer, the director, as he couldn't cheer on the Dutch side during the World Cup, decided to make a documentary about teams that were worse than the Netherlands, and chose these two. The game was played on the morning of the 2002 World Cup Final between Germany and Brazil.

[edit] Awards

The Other Final claimed two awards:

  • Avignon Film Festival's best documentary (2003)
  • Bermuda International Film Festival - Documentary Prize - Special Mention (2003)
