Album facts
The Open Door, sophomore follow-up to Evanescence's 6x Platinum debut "Fallen", is proving to be a more mature and experimental effort that is performing well in sales. On September 4, 2006, the full album was leaked onto the internet [2], but on September 24, the album became available for full streaming at AOL Music and at MuchMusic.com. The first single was "Call Me When You're Sober", experiencing a limited radio release on 31 July 2006[3], going into wide release over the next week. The full version of "Call Me When You're Sober" was actually leaked to the internet a couple days before it was due to be officially released to radio airplay; when this happened, stations were allowed to play the song on the radio. Its music video, directed by Marc Webb, was filmed in July 2006.[4] As present in Fallen, the album contains both string and vocal ensembles.[citation needed] The Millennium Choir, the choir used for songs on Fallen such as "Everybody's Fool" and "Imaginary" is used in tracks "Lacrymosa" and "Your Star". A clip of "Lacrymosa" was used in an AOL teaser for "The Open Door": MySpace or YouTube The song Amy Lee wrote for the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is not included on the album in its entirety; instead, part of it has been used as the intro of "Good Enough".[5] On September 29, The B-side "The Last Song I'm Wasting On You" leaked onto the internet. Contrary to belief, the other B-Sides have not leaked.[citation needed]Like You is written in memory of Amy Lee's sister, as was Hello on Fallen.[6]
The Open Door debuted at #1 in the U.S., Australia, Greece, Germany and Switzerland and was in the Top 5 in Austria, Canada, France, the Netherlands, Hong Kong, Italy, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Sweden, the United Kingdom, Ireland, South Korea, Norway, and Denmark. The Open Door debuted at #1 in US Billboard 200 Album Chart selling 447,342 copies in its first sales week; it was also the 700th album to top the chart.[7] In just 2 weeks on the US charts, the album sold 725,000 copies and on November 8th, 2006, The Open Door was certified Platinum in the United States after little more than a month in wide release.[8] In contrast, Fallen debuted with 142,000 copies and went on to sell almost 7 million in the US alone. The second single from The Open Door, "Lithium", is set for release in the UK on January 8, 2007.[9]
The first leg of their world tour began October 5, 2006, in Toronto with dates scheduled through to October 29, 2006, ending in San Francisco. The band then plans on heading to Europe for a brief run, after which they'll return to the States before the end of the year to play in larger arenas.[10] [11]
