"The One with the Birth" is the twenty-third episode of season one of the television situation comedy Friends.

The gang meets up at the hospital for the birth of Ross and Carol's baby. Ross and Susan argue, and Carol throws them both out of the delivery room. Phoebe takes them into a janitor's closet to try and settle the argument - but they get locked inside. Phoebe recounts her dysfunctional childhood in order to get Ross and Susan to stop fighting. They find the janitor's coveralls in the closet and decide to name the baby after the name sewn onto the pocket - Ben.

Meanwhile, Joey helps a single mother named Lydia give birth. Monica worries that she'll never have a baby of her own; Chandler tries unsuccessfully to console her. Rachel flirts with Carol's obstetrician, Dr. Franzblau, until he makes an unflattering parallel between his job and hers.
