"The One" is a pop song written by Colombian singer-songwriter Shakira for her first English language album Laundry Service (2001). The track was produced by Shakira, and was released as the fifth single from the album in 2003. It was released in many European countries, but not in the United States. Epic wanted to release "The One" in the United States, but due to the failure of Shakira's previous single "Objection (Tango)" and that it was doing below average in where Shakira does best, Epic scraped off those plans. However in the United States "The One" was able to make the TRL countdown, and it peaked at #3.

The music video for "The One" has a very basic plot. Shakira is walking through a city, where she sees all the people with their lovers/partners loving and hugging each other, while she is alone. She therefore walks through the rain, hoping the find someone who will love her forever.
She sees an old couple, a mother with her son, a police attack with an old woman, and she feels very sad to be alone.
