The Old Gum Tree at Glenelg North, South Australia was the location of the reading of the Proclamation by Governor John Hindmarsh creating the colony of South Australia on December 28, 1836. Each year a ceremony is held on the anniversary of that day by the Governor, who reads out Hindmarsh's original speech.
