The Offspring is the debut album by The Offspring. It was released March, 1989 on Nemesis Records as vinyl-only. It was later re-issued and released on CD for the first time on November 21, 1995 on Nitro Records and also on Epitaph Records, with a new album cover but otherwise identical. On the original album cover, if you look closer you can see a scary-looking skeleton, with a Stratocaster, popping out of a man's stomach. Both the re-releases on the two respective labels are identical as well. Album pressings after June 26, 2001 (July 16 in the UK) lack the song "Kill the President", the reason for the removal is still unknown but the main speculation is that the lead singer and label owner Dexter Holland believed it might cause political tensions. Also due to the date of the removal it is clear to see it wasn't removed due to 9/11, as many have incorrectly speculated. This album contains the tracks Blackball and I'll Be Waiting which were originally released on a 7" double A-side vinyl record which was distributed by the band itself on Black Label records (which the band named after a brand of beer). Only 1000 copies of this vinyl were made and it took the band two and a half years to sell them all. Ironically this vinyl is now the most expensive piece of The Offspring's work as it is also the rarest.
