[edit] Plot
Supposedly mad Sir Edward Markham (Alister Williamson) is kept captive in the attic of his house by his brother Julian (Vincent Price). When he escapes, he conspires with an unscrupilous doctor (Christopher Lee) after emerging from the "oblong box' of the title. Wearing a red hood to hide his disfigured face, Sir Edward commits murders and romances a chambermaid. He learns a terrible secret concerning his time in Africa that will have an impact on the entire Markham family.
[edit] Trivia
- Alister Williamson's voice was dubbed.
- Michael Reeves was set to direct this film but died before it was filmed.
- Despite the fact that neither his voice is heard nor his face is visible, Williamson still has the largest amount of screen time of any actor in the film.
