[edit] Plot
Walter Sparrow (Jim Carrey) finds a book that seems to be based on his life. While reading the book, he comes across details of a murder that hasn't happened in real life yet; as a consequence, he becomes obsessed with the number twenty-three and its ambiguous involvement with the murder.
[edit] Trivia
- In The Illuminatus! Trilogy, various characters become obsessed with occurrences of the number 23 in relation to important events and discuss its importance at great lengths, although this is not the central point of the books. It can also be found in the writings of William S. Burroughs and Aleister Crowley. For more occurrences, see the 23 enigma.
- Elisabeth Shue was originally cast in the female lead, but had to decline because she was pregnant.
- The movie has some similarities to the TV series Dark Oracle, as well as the film Stranger Than Fiction, which starred Will Ferrell, another comedian famous for over-the-top acting, playing a very low-key role (something Jim Carrey was already famous for, due to such films as The Truman Show and The Majestic).
- Jim Carrey also worked with director Joel Schumacher in 1995's Batman Forever.
- The movie comes out on Febuary 23rd, 2007.
