[edit] Complete Plot
During a rocket flight into space, Jimmy, Carl, Sheen, Cindy, and Libby are exposed to cosmic radiation. On returning to Earth, they discover that each has gained unusual abilities, and decide to become super-heroes: the N-Men! (actually, Sheen wanted to call them the Avenging League of Fantastic Justice-Bringing Men-- And Two Girls.)
Special Girl (Cindy) has super strength. Invisible Sister (Libby) can turn invisible. Vibrating Lad (Sheen) can vibrate or run at super-speed, though his constant vibrating makes him have to go to the bathroom a lot. Burp Boy (Carl) can release Sonic Burps that can flip a truck. Jimmy, though, merely turned orange and gained a sweet, citrus scent, much to his chagrin.
The group decide to fight crime; but, since Retroville has little but littering and jaywalking to contend with, they end up causing far more problems than they prevent. The N-Men are still somewhat clumsy with their newfound powers, and wind up causing mass destruction while attempting to do good.
The town turns against them, and the Army captures the N-Men and imprisons them in a dome of pure Kirbonium (named after famed comic book artist Jack Kirby). They don't bother to catch Jimmy, however, feeling that without powers, he's no threat. Jimmy goes to his lab to seek a solution, but discovers that the other N-Men are dying; their powers are burning out their bodies. He starts to find a cure, but just then Jimmy suffers a delayed reaction; He mutated into a super-strong giant with little intelligence (a parody of The Incredible Hulk, though with the appearance of The Thing). The monstrous Jimmy goes on an angry rampage through town.
Meanwhile, The N-Men have been practicing to learn to control their powers, and develop them further. Special Girl learns she can fly, Invisible Sister can project a force field, and Vibrating Lad overcomes his embarrassing bladder control problems. But Burp Boy is too scared of his powers to practice them, and besides, the Army hasn't let him have any spicy foods. When Special Girl develops telescopic vision, she sees the Jimmy-monster rampaging in Retroville, and they decide to escape and help defend the town. Libby distracts the guards with partial invisibility, and Sheen vibrates Carl's stomach until he produces a super-burp that shatters the Kirbonium dome.
The Army's planes and tanks prove no match for the Jimmy-monster, so they desperately allow the N-Men to confront him. After a bruising battle, Sheen gets an idea, and runs to the Candy Bar to get some of Sam's Heavy Seltzer Water, which he uses to make "Atomic Fizzies". Spraying it into Carl's mouth and vibrating his belly, Carl unleashes a burp that blasts Jimmy off his feet-- but not for long. Then the N-Men start to weaken; their powers are draining them, and as Jimmy predicted, they will soon die. Jimmy gets on his feet and walks toward Cindy with a giant rock in his hands in a atempt to kill her. In desperation, Cindy apologizes to Jimmy. Jimmy throws the rock away and tells Cindy to repeat herself. Once Cindy has apologized, she tries to tell monster Jimmy her secret until she faints. Monster Jimmy picks her up and asks the fainted Cindy what was the " L...". He then gently places her back down on the ground. He then turns back into his normal self after he has calmed down. Jimmy spots the bottle of Heavy Seltzer Water and realizes he can use it to create a cure.
Soon the N-Men are being honored by the town for saving the day. Although they plan to use their few remaining days of powers as heroes, another burp from Carl convinces them to, perhaps, just wait it out.
[edit] Trivia
- The N-Men powers would be seen again briefly in The League of Villains.
- Many of the scenes of Jimmy as a monster were taken from Ang Lee's Hulk movie, such as spinning the tank, and Jimmy seeing his reflection as his alter-ego.
- Some of the dialogue and "dramatic poses" were parodies of the early Marvel Comics work of Stan Lee.
- When apologizing to Jimmy, Cindy almost confesses her true feelings for him, saying, "I luuuh..." just before passing out.
- The N-Men with two girls is a parody of the X-Men.
- The Avenging League of Fantastic Justice-Bringing Men-- And Two Girls is based off of the names (in order): The Avengers/League of Extraordinary Gentlemen/The Fantastic 4/Justice League
- The powers each friend received were based off what they were doing when they went through the radiation. Jimmy drank some orange juice and was angry at Cindy, Carl was burping, Cindy was arm wrestling with Jimmy, Sheen was in the vibrating chair, and Libby was putting on vanishing cream.
- Cindy almost admitted she loved Jimmy, but fainted before she could finish.
- Special Girl has super-strength and can fly. So can Superman.
- Invisible Sister can turn invisible and can generate a force field. So can Violet from Disney/Pixar's The Incredibles. Also, both of these characters are highly based off of "invisible girl" from the Fantastic four.
- In the desert scene you can see a Twonkie running from jimmy as he touchs down
