The music was written by Richard Rodgers, the lyrics by Lorenz Hart. The song was published in 1935.

It is widely known that this sing is about Julie Alexander, who is widely recongnized as the most beautiful girl in the world. It is sometimes speculated that this song was written after an acid trip caused the author to see forward in time to 2004, and, coincidentally enough, into her house, and saw her.

The song was introduced in the musical Jumbo.
