The Medium (Rutgers)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Medium is the student-run entertainment newspaper of Rutgers University. Its goal is to provide a quality source of entertainment, though it has often been the object of criticism due to its politically incorrect nature. The paper's tagline refers to itself as "the entertainment weekly of Rutgers University."
As a result of frequent attacks on their right to print offensive material, the editors and contributors of The Medium have turned the paper into an exercise in the First Amendment of the US Constitution, which includes the right to a free press. Nearly all protests against The Medium have been largely ineffective because of the broad rights granted to a newspaper with regards to content.
The Medium was founded in 1970 as the campus newspaper of Livingston College. During the 1980s, the newspaper began to abandon its newsgathering and reporting activities in favor of its current "entertainment" format, due to the The Daily Targum spreading across all of the New Brunswick/Piscataway campuses.
