[edit] Background Information

The McKameys are a professional Southern Gospel group based in Clinton, TN who record on the Horizon Records label.

The McKameys began as a trio consisting of sisters, Dora, Peg and Carol McKamey in 1954. As time went by, changes have resulted in a current lineup of Peg and her husband, Ruben Bean; daughter Connie Fortner; and Peg's sister Carol Woodard. Joining the group on guitar is Connie's husband, Roger Fortner.

Ruben Bean started playing guitar for The McKamey Sisters in 1957 and he and Peg married in 1959. Their daughters Connie and Sheryl began traveling with the family in 1971 after Carol and Dora retired.

In the mid 1980's Sheryl retired from the road and Carol returned to the group.

The McKameys currently have a schedule which features approximately 150 dates a year and have recorded 15 number one singles and were honored in 1999 by Horizon Records for having the most number one songs in the history of Southern Gospel music. Eli, Connie's son recently started playing guitar.
