The Marrow of Tradition

The Marrow of Tradition is a novel by Charles Waddell Chesnutt published in 1901. It is based on the 1898 race riots in Wilmington, North Carolina. Although not a commercial success in Chesnutt's lifetime, it is widely considered one of his most important works.
