The Maple State are an alternative indie/emo rock band, formed in 2004 in Manchester, England.

The current line up is: John Goodwin - Drums, Gregory Counsell - Bass/Vocals, William Pearson - Keyboard/Vocals, Christian Counsell - Guitar.

The Maple State started out as a pop-punk band but after several line up changes the group felt that a change was needed. Soon after they started on a 3 track demo, which was very well received. After gaining interest from several record labels both from the UK and US on the strength of these demos, the band agreed to release their debut EP on Punktastic Recordings.

In January 2005 The Maple State released their debut record, a 7 track EP called At Least Until We've Settled In. They followed up this release with a year of on and off touring in the UK, playing with bands such as Motion City Soundtrack, Minus the Bear, The Academy Is and Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly.

Then, in December 2005, The Maple State headed to Chicago, IL where they worked with producer Sean O'Keefe (Fall out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack) and played a Christmas show with Motion City Soundtrack at First Avenue, and gained many fans in the Twin Cities.

At the end of 2005 The Maple State were voted 'Best UK newcomer' by the readers of Big Cheese Magazine

The band released a split EP with Kneehigh in May 2006. It is only a limited release appearing on both CD and White Vinyl.

In the summer of 2006 the band went into the studio with producer Andy Gill (Gang of Four) to record several new songs, one of which entitled Joanna is set for release on the Manchester based indie label High Voltage Sounds in early 2007.
